Math:
MEP pages book 1a. So, in a moment of..."well aren't I arrogant", I finally took a look at the lesson plans for MEP. Duh. We'll now use them in stead of just taking advantage of the worksheets. The lesson plan was really helpful and supported the worksheets. Sort of like it was designed or something. (-snort-)
Writing:
Practiced writing sentences from the book and discussing punctuation.
Field Trips and Life Skills:
It was a stupidly busy week. We took the subway to my doctor's office and had a street dog after my appointment We looked at the subway maps and talked about how she will ride the subway everyday when first grade comes around.
Afternoon tea at the Royal York (Fairmount) Hotel in Toronto
Demonstrating proper Princess walk up stairs. |
Bee hives in back. Rachel says, "Come on! When will it be time to look at the bees?" |
Bee hotel for visiting, non-hive bees |
Physical Education:
Swimming lessons continue plus playground adventures.
Science:
She decided that while David and I were wiring in a ceiling fan, she would build circuits with her circuit set.
We also worked in a second trip to the zoo. It was supposed to be a water-park visit, but she chose instead to look at some more animals. We also did the show at the zoo and learned about some very interesting birds.
Music:
Flight of the Bumblebee and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov - She has no interest in listening to music and talking about it. We've tried a couple of times, but it just isn't something she cares about. I'll try to keep working it in. She shows no interest in wanting to play a musical instrument. She does like to sing and has done a few lessons with a voice teacher. That may be the door into music for her...well, that and dance.
Reading:
She completed her first week in the summer reading program.
I read these to her:
She read these to me:
- Mermaid Dance by Marjorie Rose Hakala
- Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty
- The Busy Beaver
- Marley: The Dog Who Cried Woof (I Can Read 2)
- How to Teach a Slug to Read by Susan Pearson
- If You Hold a Seed by Elly MacKay
- One Dark Night by Lisa Wheeler
We actually read a lot more than these, but I'm not going to document everything.
